Flavor
This matcha is extremely bitter and astringent, with only subtle hints of nuttiness and sweetness. I find it to be fairly one-dimensional, lacking much of the complexity that I look for in higher-quality matcha. Interestingly, it also lacks the pronounced savory, marine aroma that many matchas have. Of every matcha I have tried, this one most closely resembles the flavor of fresh grass.
My Thoughts
I don't like it.
It makes a poor usucha and, in my opinion, an almost undrinkable koicha. While it can produce a decent latte, I think there are far better options at a similar price point.
Online, Jade Leaf is one of the most popular matcha brands, largely because of its accessibility and strong marketing. Despite its popularity, I have found the flavor to be underwhelming. It may be a reasonable introduction to matcha for some people, but I would recommend looking elsewhere if you're interested in experiencing what high-quality matcha can truly offer.
